Best of luck, I'm down to 4 but only because I knew 2 were bad.

Sounds like your mama hen ain't such a good mama, Pat.

Seems to be careless with the eggs, or maybe it was just too many for her...? Only mother nature knows that answer. What about her sitting time? Is she spending a lot of time on the nest like she should? She may be breaking out of her broodiness. When my RIR hen was coming out of being broody she got really careless and broke a lot of eggs until she finally just quit sitting.

I may try candling one more time tonight, but honestly, unless the egg is weeping, smells really bad, or is obviously clear (like the one I tossed a couple days ago), I won't throw any out til after they're due. I just don't trust my judgement in candling yet.

Patman, I'd say I'm really sorry about your broken egg, but it sounds like it was a dud anyway.

I was a little worried because a couple evenings ago, my broody got up and was off the nest for a good 2 hours. However, it was in the mid-high 90s, possibly a little warmer in the henhouse, so I figure the eggs are fine. I am keeping the incubator on standby in case she's sick of it- she's been broody for a good 5 weeks now. Regardless of how this this hatch pans out, I'm going to try to break her broodiness when this ends.

I bet it was bad.

We had an unfortunate accident a couple weeks ago with an egg that was +/- 14 days along where it got broken. There was a little chick body, complete with feathers, legs, etc. I guess it's entirely possible the hens could've, um, destroyed the evidence, but I would guess not.

We put in 11th August 11, 2:30PM.
24 White Leghorns
6 Our mixed up breed(1 production red roo, 1 buff orp roo, 1 RI hen, 1 BA hen, 1 buff opr hen. so who knows what they will look like????????)

Looks like only one of my eggs is good now.

Just checked cos I couldn't resist, one egg is dark now with the veins just visible by the air sac (that was the wriggler), one of the maybe's hasn't developed further, one is still pretty clear and one I can see an embryo shape with black eye floating freely in what looks like water - no viscosity at all so think that one is definately dead.
However, I bought a second incubator to put more eggs in and set it up a couple of days ago, the second rcom is definately hotter than the first, although their displays both say 37 degrees. I put the baby bath thermometer in the first one and it read as under 36 degrees.

Could this be why 5 of my eggs have died?

And do you think the last one is gonna make it?
