I have two different ages of chickens in one coop, one about to turn 4 months and one about to turn 3 months. I know I need to feed the 4 month old chickens calcium or they start taking calcium out of their bones, but then I heard that if you feed chickens too early calcium they may have kidney or liver failure. How can I resolve this issue without causing problems?

Not really. All chickens (male and female of any age) need some calcium for body maintenance and to grow bones when young and growing. Around 1% of what they eat is enough for this. When they are laying the pullets and hens need about 4% of what they eat to be calcium so they can form good strong egg shells. If they are not laying they don't need that excess calcium. It has nothing to do with age, just whether or not they are laying.

Do like Sourland said. It's what most of us do.
