Have you ever felt like just driving away from it all for awhile?

For the second year now, my DH has taken my 3 youngest kids on a camping/amusement park long weekend. I have to plan, buy, and pack the food, but then I have a long weekend where all I have to do is feed the animals and walk the dog. This year, my oldest son graduated college, so he and I spent the weekend watching movies and eating junk food. When the travellers return, I am rested and they have had a great time too.

Amazing! I've been feeling exactly the same way....literally having the exact thoughts!!!!! I've even planned where I'm going and when I'm going there....but would rather go right now. I'm actually planning my midlife crisis and will be driving across the continent with my good old dog and some good music on the radio.

I need to get away from constant exposure to humans and only contact them on my own terms, in my own time, whenever I want....not because I have to. Not my friends or family.....just the rest of the world. Just for a short time. Just until I get my second wind. Just for a little while.....drive and drive. Stop at the ocean and dig my toes in the sand, watch the sun set, not speak to anyone.

So exactly what I was thinking, even the beach & sand.

So today I got up at 7AM fed the goats & chickens, let them out for the day, cleaned & refilled the waterers & water buckets, watered my outside plants, worked in my home office for 4 hours, paid the bills, did the weekend dishes, 2 loads of laundry, went to the feed store, went to the grocery, left for a work appointment at 3:30 got back at 6:00, fed the dogs, fed the goats & put them away for the night, gathered eggs, gave stepson a haircut, back into my home office at 7-9PM, locked in chickens for the night, fixed dinner for everyone, cleaned up dishes, back into office from 10PM til now. I havent' even unloaded the stuff I had to get at the feed store yet. I have a work appointment 9AM in the morning, about 4 hours of office work & another late work appointment tommorrow thats an hour & a half away so I won't get home til about 9:30PM tomorrow night along with all the family & animal care in the middle, & the rest of the week is just as packed.

I know how all of you encourage people to get more & more chickens, but in the middle of cooking dinner I tell the DBF the neighbor asked me if I would hatch some chicks for him. Which is no problem, but DBF says, if I hatch chicks he gets to keep them. I told him 70 chickens is more than enough we don't need anymore. He said he would just buy more at the flea market then. I don't know how someone who is so busy with his job himself he hardly ever has time to help out, someone who never goes to the feed store, rarely pays for the chicken food & supplies, & has helped me clean the coop out a total of 2 times in the past two years feels he gets to decide how many chickens we have. I even secretly give chickens to people just to get rid of some without him knowing. One time he found out I gave 2 chickens to my friend & he went out & bought ten to replace them!

I swear I'm gonna gas up the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok; you need to delegate some of that workload. Darling hubby/BF whatever can contribute to helping and so can stepson. If you do not get any help then no clean clothes, food, dishes, etc.... enough is enough! Everyone has their breaking point and I think you have just about reached it!

I think I would have a butchering party as well. If he does not help with the birds then they go to freezer camp. Refuses to contribute to the feed, they go to freezer camp.

Time for a good ole' fashioned heart-to-heart with your SO. You are not the female slave of the house who caters to the wishes of the men! Time to stand up for yourself and do some butt kicking!

Oh, I'd stop that in a heartbeat....everytime he brings more home I'd serve them for dinner. If he got more I would can them up for chicken soup later. He'd be having chicken for every meal until he stopped hoarding. Buy more? Great....chicken pot pie, chicken soup, chicken casserole, fried chicken, chicken fettucini...oh, the list goes on!

Girl, you don't need a vacation, you need a good cast iron skillet and a good aim!

Okay then........ gas not needed, loading gun, grabbing cast iron skillet, & some cooking oil. I think the chicken dinners would even be good for the dogs, it would save me money on dog food.
