Have you ever pecked a chicken???

LOL. I call it drop kicking. Have been known to drop kick a few roos too. Actually if that doesn't get the message across to roos they go to the freezer.

All the time--have one RIR that has taken over one nest and pecks me when I go under her for eggs--not broody, just keeping the eggs warm--she not only pecks, but she bites. I will stroke her neck then she'll stop and purr. Will also give her a little scratch grain in the nest and she stops. I remember as a preteen at my aunt's, her daughter sent me out to gather eggs not telling me there was an especially mean broody on one nest. I reached in and the bird came at me like a banshee. My cousin thought it was funny as heck. My MN cousins used to think since I was from NY I was a city kid--found out different when they finally came to visit.

Haven't tried pecking them...I just grab them and give 'em kisses. Believe me, they hate that a lot more!

I do!

I started doing it not too long ago. I got real tired of hateful bedtime squabbles real fast. For hens that aren't too rough, I "peck" them until they got back in line. Now, I still do it, but if any hens are being particularly aggressive they get cuffed upside the head until they get the idea. And I have to say, it works good. I've only ever had to throw somebody out of the coop 3 times. They haven't done it so badly again.

No roo I've had has ever stopped it.

I also have pecked them when they are being too mean or aggressive to other birds. If they are aggressive to me, they get one of those "drop kicks" I heard mentioned earlier

When I have an aggressive little cockerel in the brooder that jumps me while I'm servicing the box I "peck" them back with my finger until they back off and run. Haven't had a people aggressive rooster since I started doing that.

Yes, I've pecked a few of my girls. When I'm out there at roosting time and someone's being especially catty, I'll peck at the meanie. Their body language reaction is just like when a higher level bird is pecking at them. I use my pointer and middle finger held together as my "beak."
