Hawk attacked my new babies!

In the US, if you harm a bird of prey, you can face fines of $100,000 and 1 year in jail. That has been the law for 100 years.

We have hawks around us, and they come and go , raising young ones. Some months they are pesty, while other months they express little interest in out our chickens.

We dont plan to kill the hawk at all. Its just doing what comes naturally. We're gonna fortify the coop more to prevent an attack. If it gets tangled in some wire and dies then thats just as nature intended . We just want our girl to get better. This is our first round at chickens and its heartbreaking

You can apply for a permit to kill...https://www.fws.gov/permits/

I have lost a couple of young chicks getting through my chainlink fence into the yard. Our dogs are trained to leave the grown chickens alone, but when they see a baby chick, they go after them like birds. Hawks are nuisance when young chicks are outside, so best to keep them in a secure run until they are bigger.

mix 2 325mg asprin into a gallon of water and 2 tbsp of molasses to replenish iron lost in the blood due to the attack. keep repacking the wounds as much as possible with neosporin and keep it slathered. a wet wound will heal faster then a dry one and scabs are uncomfortable especially on theyre supple skin

she may be in pain, this is where i would start
