Heads up ... Privacy issue to check out

Some of the information is right, some is wrong. I don't see any real reason to remove it. It is still available on the net if someone knows how to look since it was gathered from information available on the net.

Besides, I had the same misgivings as stated in the Snopes report as soon as I saw the sequence given by Kansaseq on how to remove your information. Why should I confirm to them that my e-mail address is right? I get enough spam as it is. Besides, what's to stop them from putting it back on next week? Their integrity?

Heh, they still have me living under my old addresses based on my maiden/exmarried names. I therefore live in 6 places now. Sweet.

And honestly, there are so many of these places. I actually do use Spokeo (or google) to find out if the folks emailing me back on craigslist are real, local people. I use whitepages.com as well. I have a few others as well I can go to, and with someone's email, phone or full name, I usually can put an address to them.

Spokeo also thinks we are rich as well, and that we live about 1/4 mile down the road in a field. Even Tomtom and Google think we live in that field. It's awesome

Wow, site sure is specific! Even has my husband's income right there for all to see. They know more about him than me. They have me as one of the kids to his parents. HAHAHA

Really did have photos of our parents houses. That's sort of creepy. Not sure how I feel about that.

I'm with Ridgerunner. They have 3 of me listed, no address, phone number or email. I'm not going to give it to them!

There were a couple threads about spokeo.com earlier this year and the best laugh was how much of the info is wrong.

Mahonri, are you still listed as a veterinarian?

Well, I was on there, and just out of curiousity I spent/wasted $36 to join and see what they had. I checked myself and a friend, and almost all of the information was wrong. Also, most of the answers were "unknown". HOAX!

Well Joe all I can say is that was certainly a lot of correct information on my husband and I. Now granted William Smith is a common name so they could have gotten lucky matching his up but my name, legally having my Cherokee name in there....not as easy to get lucky on not to mention having personal information correct...and my children having different last names and showing up....I have got a problem with that.

I am going to check every month for a few months and make sure my stuff does not come up again.

Thanks for the heads up, my DH and I were both there, although my first name had a letter wrong, but still the address etc was all there. For more info on other sites doing this, you can go to a website called Privacy Rights Clearinghouse.com, they have listings of many many other sites doing the same thing....sigh.

There are actually quite a few sites out there that do this. They collect information online and sell it to marketing companies, etc. There was a news article awhile back that listed the top ones.
