Heat Tolerant Egg Producer Suggestions Needed

Hi y'all!

Newbie here from the Midlands of South Carolina. I would love some advice based on personal experiences on chicken breeds that are great egg producers and can take the heat and humidity of SC. I'm a newbie so I also would like these breeds to be better for a first time, about to be, crazy chicken lady. The absolute best in my world would also be if they are dual purpose birds.

Welcome from a fellow South Carolinian in the Midlands!
I've kept multiple breeds here and very few haven't done well in our weather. So long as you have shade, fresh water, and a ventilated coop they'll be good.

Barred Rocks may be a good fit for you. They're proficient layers, hardy, generally sweet natured, and make good meat birds. If there are any other breeds you are thinking about getting feel free to ask about them!

Welcome to BYC! I would also recommend Leghorns. They're excellent layers, and very heat tolerant. Any color, but the white are my favorites. Good luck, and have fun with your new adventure!

Hello, and welcome to BYC. Leghorns or any other Mediterranean breeds might suit your purpose for eggs, but are not particularly meaty. Cockerels do make great fryers.
