Heated Waterers

I use the Farm Innovators heated base with a Little Giant five gallon double walled fount. I haven’t had any problems and it’s been in the teens. I think the reason some people might be having problems is that they try to lift the fount by the handle on the outer “tube.” That breaks the vacuum seal. You have to carry it by the inner handle. The other thing is, it does have to be level or the water runs out.

I rigged this up 4 years ago....still going strong.

I am looking for a reliable and easy to use heated chicken waterer. Does anyone use the heated dog bowl for their chickens? The heated chicken waterers are so expensive and don't seem to get good reviews. Any advise?

I do have the dog bowl. Save your money. My chickens would stand on side and flip it knocking over water. We flipped the bowl and put fountain on it. Working right now but started icing a little when in the 20’s. May have to return. Invest in the heated hanging waterer with lid my recommendation.

Last winter when I had a smaller flock I tried the heated dog bowl. My problem was it only held 1 gallon (I think that's what it was.) And it wouldn't last all day so I was going out at least once filling it. If haul water out to my coup every day in the freezing cold I wouldn't use a heated bowl and would just go out and swap out the frozen one for fresh. I bought the 5 gallon double fount with heated base like others have mentioned. Now I can go 5 days or so before it has to be filled. My preference is to haul a 5 gallon buck out once a week then to have to haul a gallon out every day. This way if something happens and I am away from the home for a day I don't have to worry about the water.
