Heather Mills is dead! =(

I don't think shes a bad person I think she just made a mistake and the dog was being a dog and dare I say it... being bad...

If the dog was on your land, you have every right to file a complaint against her. sorry for your loss

I am so sorry for your loss. No you are not pathetic. A dog in Oct broke in and killed 12 of my hens. I was devastated. We did not know who the dog belonged to. It got away that morning but came back that night for more. SSS. Don't like to do it but have to protect my animals also. Tell the owner. Get another chicken.

to you

Was your chicken on your land or ranging elsewhere? Was the dog on your property or elsewhere? Are there leash laws (most places have them)--I m assuming the dog was off leash and not being controlled by the owner? Is your land fenced?

dog chased the chicken into a neighbouring field, not my land, dog owner was trespassing on a farmers land and came into my garden and was not on a lead...

they have an electrically fenced off run but they free range during the day...

So the birds were on your land when the dog came in and chased them, with them ending up in a neighboring field? And the dog owner was with the dog, but the dog was offleash, and the owner did nothing to restrain his dog or prevent it from chasing and killing your birds?

If all that is the case, then you definitely need to contact the dog owner and raise heck. Require reimbursement for all damages, vet bills, and the loss of your hen. Don't underestimate the value of any of these. Make it very clear that he is to stay off your property and keep his dog off your property. If there is a leash law, make sure he understands, and report him to whoever deals with animal control issues in your county.

noo the owner was in the neighbouring field to the left, the dog chased the chicken off my garden into the neighbouring field on my right... she doesn't know, we think, that her dog killed heather... but yes she owes me a chicken and either to muzzle that dog or keep it on a lead... next time her dog will be put down, as with any dog that comes and attacks my chickens

i'm sorry for your loss

someone in my 4-h group had her whole flock eaten by a dog and the owners STILL WON'T KEEP IT INSIDE

it's totally the dog owner's fault!

It's devastating to lose a chicken and YES, ok to cry. I lost my first and only to date special needs bird (a quail, fyi) to a cat as the could not run fast enough to escape (she was missing a foot). I never found the whole body but a trail of feathers and - graphic - a dismembered head.

I agree with Sonoran Silkies. I know that's what I would do, at least
