Yes....and if you have sevin dust to mix in a bit...it can help boost the power for the little ones that can hold their breath...lol

And ivermectin I have not had luck with killing the leg mites....They live under the scales and don't really get the exposure to the meds ...that is why they are the hardest to kill...only really way is to get up under the scales with the vasaline (with or without sevin) to suffocate them!!!

I recently experienced something similar with one of my hens, she started limping, and the following day she wouldn't put any weight on one leg the next day. I started her on Duramycin, and Immuno Boost and within a couple of days she was walking fine. I would isolate her and make the antibiotic water the only water available, mix a fresh batch daily, and keep her on it for 10 days even if she looks cured. Your feed store should carry the powdered Duramycin and Immuno Boost. Good luck.

Well Red seems to be a little more alert today. I gave her a shot of pennacillin yesterday afternoon. Leg is still swollen and red but I am hopefull that we are going in the right direction finally.

When I picked her up this morning she actually tried to fly out of my arms. A feat that she has not tried in a while. Luckally I held on to her, I would not want her to have to land on her sore leg. She is still in one of my isolation cages that are built right in to my chicken house and will remain there until she fully recovers or I see a marked improvement in her.
On another note I had one of my broody hens sitting on one of her eggs and it should have hatched yesterday. I had checked on the egg yesterday afternoon and could hear the chick inside chirping. I went back in to check on the progress of the egg and chick lastnight and found that the chick still had not penetrated the outside of the egg so I listened to the egg and could not hear the chick chirping anymore. So I quickly cracked the egg open to try to save the chick (I know they say not to but I'm a sucker for life) the chick had suffocated in the egg. I was too late...

So now we are really pulling for Red to get better because I have no chicks from her and our new RIR Roo.... Come on RED.. I hope she passed her personality on to her chicks because she is great!!
So please keep her in your thoughts....
