HEEELLPP!! Emergency!!

If they are truly under the skin like you are describing. I cannot see hoe anything you do from the outside will help. Does anyone know of an internal,PO or injectable that will kill maggots? There is no way to get them out if they are that far into his body

They are under a thin white (dead) sheet of skin. I think finally, the majority of the work is over.. now when I look, I only see one of 2 maggots. I just did one more peroxide treatment, then soaked him in that iodine disinfectant and set him in a box with towels. He's been eating like crazy since I put him in there so thats good.

In the morning, I'm going to treat the skin again and go back to pulling the bugs out. *sigh*. If I need to, I'll stay home from work and do it all day. I'll also call my vet in the morning and see if they'll look at chickens. If they will, I'll take him in.

Had a duck given to me by a friend (their dog attacked him). They thought the dog had just taken the feathers but I found a HOLE in his side...FULL of MAGGOTS!! I cleaned it out with, I think alchohol, peroxide is BAD for wounds, it deteriorates the skin so it won't heal (that's what the vet said) Anyways, cleaned it out and packed it with a salve called itcthomol (SP?) an antiseptic/ drawing salve, All I had at the time and that stuff is a MIRACLE, they sell it at the feed stores, it's brown and stinks but it works like nothing I have ever seen on wounds, if you can get some that's what you should fill the whole area with. You will see results within the week. Best stuff on earth. Good luck

Thanks :)

If it comes to it, I'll cut the dead white skin off. They're directly under it and the skin is dead so I can't imagine it would hurt to try would it?? Let me know what you guys think..

If the majority of the magots are gone stop the peroxide! He wont be able to heal with the tissue damage from the proxide. You really need to get something on that wound. Another poster suggested SWAT. Looks like it would be perfect for this situation. Good luck. Hope he does well.

If I am not mistaken, maggots only eat dead flesh, that is why in some wound care places they use maggots, to clean out the dead so only the fresh flesh (UGGH) is left to heal. I saw something about maggot use in hospitals on TV before. So maybe they are in fact helping....but of course THEY MUST GO!!! Good Luck

They will most definatly eat live flesh and yes cut off that dead layer of skin and pick off or wash off any maggots you can! I wouldnt leave any on if you can get at them. That thin whit tissue is only a hiding place!
