I am from Conroe TX and currently have a variety of pet chickens.
My problem is that one of my new babies, now 3 months old had an impacted crop. I flushed it out and found nothing out of the ordinary. I have had her separate from the others and on soft diet. Her crop is still stopped up. I can feel pebbles and gravel in the crop and they will not come up when I flush her crop. I have also been giving her oil hoping the pebbles will pass. They have not passed and I don't know what to do. Should I consider crop surgery? I have never done this before. I am unable to afford a vet visit much less surgery on my baby.
I hope someone one can give me some advice.
Thank you for your time.
Janey

from West Virginia! I'm sorry but I can't answer your question. I am new to chickens as well. Try posting under "Raising Backyard Chickens" and then "Emergencies/Diseases/Injuries and Cures" Someone should be able to help you there. Congrats on your flock. I hope the little one will be ok.

Welcome to the coop!

Do a search for "impacted crop surgery" I believe I remember seeing a very good post or article with play-by-play pictures and how to stitch it up afterwards. A little scary but a lot of people do it successfully. Good luck!
