Hello from northern Illinois!! I finally decided to join the community here because I've realized that I've used this a ton so I might as well make an account! I first got chickens about 2 years ago in April and currently have 5 hens and 4 ducks! I'm still not too sure about what breed they all are but I'm assuming my oldest is an isa brown
My favorite part of raising these menaces is the amount of trouble they cause. Last summer my girls learned they could jump the fence separating me and my neighbors backyards (even caught one trying to jump to the road). It always made my neighbors laugh and they got to meet the chickens often
I also find it adorable how they follow me around like little puppies!! My old hen, Twinkie would always run to me whenever I leaned down and clapped and she'd get crazy jealous whenever I held one of her sisters
My other hobbies would include reading or drawing. I don't do too much as of now as I'm busy with school
I'm a big bird person and I have 8 cockatiels who love to sing. Outside of birds, I have a cat who turned one around two months ago and we all love him. My family is very supportive of my chicken craze and my older brother even has some hens of his own! I hope everyone and their flocks are doing well!
Buggy, one of the first two chickens I had!
Twinkie! My lovely easter egger who would always demand attention from me. She was the second of my first pair of chickens!
Angel! She would always chase me whenever I had a tortilla or anything that she wasn't used to seeing
Pumpkin! She's my oldest now and the one who kept trying to jump to the road last year... She creates a ton of chaos but I still love her!
Beast!! Shes our biggest chicken and she reminds me a lot of a cat. Shes always chasing after me and jumping on me but the second I try to pet her she starts pecking me
Extremely cuddly but attacks you when you cuddle her back??
Scaredy Cat!! Her name was originally Sol (and Beast was originally named Luna from their old owners) but I started calling her scaredy cat as a joke due to how everything would terrify her (watermelon, melon, grapes, really just any kind of fruit, bees, worms, planes, my dad??) and it stuck! Also, it was winter when the photo was taken if your wondering why shes so round.
Pip!! (Short for pipsqueak) She also loves to cuddle and lays these gorgeous blue eggs!! Shes incredibly small even though she's almost two and I feel very bad for her on windy days (she gets blown away).
Chip! We call her and Pip the "Chipitets" Shes incredibly sweet and loves to chase me until I hold her but she's been giving me so much trouble since I got her
About a year ago she first got coccidiosis and not even a month after she recovered she had sour crop too!! I was happy when she started gaining weight (maybe too much shes our second heaviest) and became more lively but shes recently added bumblefoot onto her list of things to worry me about
I'm looking for advice on that too as I can't tell if it's healing or not..
All of my ducks out in the snow! They're the only ones who enjoy the winter
There's Donald, Daisy, Waddles, and Domino in front!
That's it for photos and my introduction! So once again, Hello everyone!!
