Hello from Colorado!!

Thanks so much everyone. I will check everything out as I plan to get "crackin" before the end of March!

I have had a bantam before and she was a delight! She was also a 'house chicken', in nice weather she was outside by day, inside by night. I kept her in a very large ferret cage, and she did very well. During the winter I would take her out every so often during the day. She was very friendly, hand tamed and a great companion, not to mention she gave us beautiful little eggs......I miss her so much, she died after 4 years. Don't really know why either.....but, hoping to start up again in her memory

I live in Colorado Springs....our winters can be very unpredictable. Sometimes we get alot of snow, sometimes just alot of cold with the wind blowing....other times just cold; then we can get up to 68 degrees in the middle of winter. So it's anyone's guess, which is why I need a breed that will do well in just about any type of weather!

Thanks for the response and the welcome! Btw, I think RIR's are beautiful!!

Now if it would only stop snowing so I could get my coop and run built, I would be up and running!!

Nice to meet all of you!

I wish I could find some locally.....I've read they are very good in cold winter conditions.....! They are a beautiful color too. I'd like to have an Easter Egger, A Buff Orpington, and a Dominique, but all I can find so far are Dominiques. I don't want to have them shipped to me, I think that's kind of cruel. I don't have an incubator, don't really want to go to the expense of that since I am only going to have a small flock. I guess I'll just have to take what I can get, which is ok, as I just LOVE chickens!!
