Rain and 55 deg. on Wed and 8" of new snow and now 10 deg. in southern, wis. Keeping chickens in this climate presents a lot of problems that you might not experience in milder climates. Lights, heaters, to insulate/not insulate. All questions new chicken "wranglers" should consider. I'm a new member but an observation should be noted that while advice from t he South or West may be appropriate most backyard flocks, severe climate changes can be a challenge. Many of the coops that are adequate elsewhere may not be adequate in the midwest. I'm glad I can experiment with different coop designs and materials. Even though it's cold out my hen's are happy!
