You have a nice brooder! I also love using the MHP and I just remembered how much I also prefer using stall pellets as brooder bedding... I didn't have any this spring so I used the pine shavings I already had and that was a total disaster for several days. Had to promptly get more pellets and now it's finally just right, and tidy!

I like to keep a mirror, dust bath with sand and a perch in there. It's also extremely helpful to keep the food up on a platform. I use a 2x4 the first week or so, then switch to a brick and finally a cinder block as the chicks grow. This keeps them from pooping in it and scratching/flinging all the food out. Here's a very helpful modification you can make to your feeder: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/no-waste-chick-feeder-build.1297528/page-2#post-21148448
if you keep the extension only 1/4" from the bottom, I can't tell you what a lifesaver it is!

At about 1-2 weeks you can introduce a little chunk of sod from your yard for chicks to dig through. They might seem terrified for an hour or so, but then they'll rip it to shreds. My chicks are going out to the coop this weekend (2.5 weeks old) to finish brooding and start integration with my older birds.
Have fun starting your new chicken adventure!

This is my favorite little chickie activity!
