Hello from Scotland! *Updated with piccies!*

Ciad Mile Failte - a hundred thousand greetings from a Nova Scotian! So glad you got the bug. I'm a descendent of Scots - Morrison's and MacDonalds - and have been there only once. I loved it.
Can you tell me if there is a slang word for hens or chicks in Scotland. I have it in my mind - a word my great-grandmother used but I can't recall it.

again - welcome!

*swoons!* Just as I remember the countryside... so pretty! Ours is frozen this morning, too... battening down for 8 months of winter - where did the summer go?

What chicken breeds do you raise? The pictures were just small enough that I couldn't tell. You folks in the UK have such BEAUTIFUL birds... we're all so jealous.

Yes, that's the doodle. Some days I would quite happily give him away (he's the one that killed one of my girls and took another one for a wee trip). But he's my little boys dog and we do love him really:D Ask me in a few weeks though, I may have changed my mind by then!!

Uh, oh. If he kills chickens, he can stay in Scotland.

My labs would probably try to "play" with the chickens if they could get to them.

I'm a direct descendant of the MacDonalds too!! We must be related then!!!

not sure about the slang though. They were generally just called cocks (as in Cock-a-leekie soup). I'll ask my mum though, she might know. She's on holiday in Florida just now though so it will have to wait a month!
