Are 17 year-olds ever excited about anything their parents like?
Congratulations on starting your new flock... looks like chicken math already struck!

Most prefabs that come with a little attached run are too small for more than 2 or 3 chickens... even if they say they fit 10 birds! The bigger kits (that do not come with a run) can work well as a roosting/nesting house if you can build a large securely fenced area for them or let them free range daily... all day. I agree that a shed conversion is definitely easier than starting from scratch, but will need some modifications... ventilation most important!
