hi, I am new to backyard chickens.com, I found the site searching in desperation for help. I am living in bell county texas. today I was informed due t deed restrictions, of bell county I could not have back yard chickens. I got threatened with receiving shortly a certified letter, which most likely means; get rid of the chickens or law suit. All I have is rescue chickens. these are my pets. what should I do, I was aware that by law you are allowed to have at least 4 backyard chickens in the city limits. I need help. and quite fast. I do receive, and I don't ask (donation) for any free help, nor do I gain financial gain thru this. I do not sell the chickens, I help them from illness, injuries and so on, and then find a good home for them, with no charges to anyone. Please, someone, help me, what I can do to keep my chickens. roostl

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

Sorry to hear about your troubles! I am sorry to say that if there are deed restrictions where you live you may have to find another home for your birds. You might want to post in the Texas thread (look in the Where am I - where are You section of the Forum) and also in the Local Chicken Laws and How to Change them sections. Good luck.

Hi there I too am new to BTC
I live in California. I was in San Diego for some time.
There I found that not having roosters, and offering eggs to neighbors helped that for me...
Without the roosters crowing early and the great fresh eggs as a peace offering my problem with that went away, as I sincerely hope your upsetting situation desolves aswel. Good luck I hope this helps.

Who informed you? You need to get it from the horses mouth, direct from your city, as to what exactly the codes are for where you live. You can look it up on-line or go to your city hall and ask for a copy. You have to make sure that you've read, understand, and have a copy of the codes that apply to you before you let anyone tell you that you can't have x number of chickens.
