hello all I am a new member and I was wondering if you could help me identify the breed of this chicken.. I only have two as I live on a golf course in Alaska. But even thought I live on a golf course I have about 20 rabbits, 2 chickens, 4 dogs, 1 cat 2 kids and a husband (he is VERY patient mind you). anyway I just met one of the members of this forum names Mrs.AK-bird brain (I think that is what she said) anyway I am aquiring her flock of button quail tommorrow and I am SOOOOOO excited.....so I am here learning a bit more about my chickens and more in general! anyway I lookforward to learning with you and from you!!!!

Welcome!! One of our sons lives in Wasilla-- Greg Reid-- along with his wife and kids-- we've never been there but hope to visit one of these days !
 
OH I got my babies today

They are so cute and they even laid me a egg on thier way here!!! I got them all nestled in and they laid another one!!! two eggs on thier first day home!!!! yeah!!!!

its COLD out right now. -30.... BBBRRRRR glad I got the heated barn for them!

oh and the coturnix are so cute too!!!! I really like the sound they make!!!! my DD asked waht that noise was when they called out!!!!

OH I am so excited!!!!my hubby said I shoudl get rid of all my rabbits and just have these guys!!!! I think I just might have to do that!

You're welcome. The cool part is that they mature in about 6 weeks, and only take 16 days to incubate, so you can multiply your "herd" quite quickly. Both the buttons and the coturnix.

In another 2 weeks, your baby coturnix should be big enough that you can start telling the males and females apart... the males will have a lot more rust on their chests, and the females will be more speckled with very little rust.
