Hi everyone, so happy to join this community. I live in Ramona, CA. (San Diego County). We have 10.5 acres. Practicing homesteading, still learning. We have 11 hens and 1 rooster. We had more but we free-ranged for a while and lost some (we live in a rural area on a mountain so probably bobcat or coyote) so they are back to 2 coops and a long run between. I have some great books but nothing beats hands on knowledge. Looking forward to sharing and learning.

Have you considered adding a layer of dry organic material to your run so they have something to scratch around in?

Hi! Yes, we recently added hemp & pine shavings to this run but I only had the older full picture. Any suggestions on other material? Here is a newer pic.

I use wood chips that I get for free from the local highway departments. You can also rake up or go collect recently put out bags of dry leaves.
