This is a great place to learn lots of great information about chicks and chickens. Do you have any breeds that you are thinking about? If not, tell us what you are looking for in the breed, and we can help you.

Problem is, there have not or ever will find an anti virus for all us chickensick peeps!!

Welcome and marvel at the wonderful world of BYC and it's members...including chickens....... healthy addiction! Hugs from across the pond to you and yours xx

As of yet I'm undecided on the breed...although I would love an EE or two for those gorgeous eggs! I suppose I want something fairly docile, a moderate egg layer, that can tolerate the cold. The DH is only on board if we can have a bantam or two, as his father used to keep them and he thinks they rock! Can I mix banties and standards?

In response to how you get the disease, it is called GOOGLE. You ask a stupid question and BYC comes up and you say ewwwww coool lets check it out and you are HOOKED!!!!! Wait till you get an incubator and hatch your first little clutch of eggs!!! HOOK LINE AND SINKER!!!! You are done terminally! What a better way to spend out your last days as a human! Couldn't think of a better way.

One other thing. Buff Brahmas are nice little friendly lovable chicks. They aren't tiny but they are not huge chickens either.

EEs are nice. Mine lay huge green eggs. I would go with Light Brahmas. I have some and they are so gentle, docile, and wonderful, Barred Rocks are also nice. You can mix bantams and standards, but If you have a large breed rooster and a bantam rooster, you will need to make sure the large rooster doesnt peck on the smaller one. Bantam cochins are very nice for a bantam breed.

You have found the right place! I have gained so much knowledge through this site. You can't use it all, but you can taylor it to your needs. But, I am afraid your illness is a permanent condition. I grew up with chickens, but was not around them for 40 years and yet here I am with chickens now. I don't care if it is 4, 14 or 400 if you love chickens, you love chickens. I have 5 Buff Orpingtons that are just starting to lay and they are wonderful chickens. Also, I have 3 Black Australorps, 3 Barred Rocks and 3 NH Reds. The nine are 17 weeks old. They all get along wonderfully and I love them. If there is a good part to your illness it's that it is contagious. My husband has it now! Good luck.
