Hatching eggs under bantam broodys first time trying to hatch eggs - I got 3 eggs and put them under them the next day they looked after them for a while then I checked on them I only have a torch and could just about make out air sacks on day 10. Looking at egg just about see when the girls get up in morning under dark plastic

Had an accident with an egg got cracked about day 13 so upsetting - tried to repare with sticky take and candle wax (after looking up online) put back under the broody girls, lot later on few days found out they eating wax on the egg tried to cover bit more, and last Thursday found the egg more squashed bloody and it started leaking and smelling took away, fell so horrible the little chick had got feathers on but no where near ready, very upsetting and stress full

We are after 21 days now about 24 day
The girls do well at sitting on the eggs together, but do get up out of house once (or twice a day sometimes) for a poop and stretch and quick dust bathe in soil

where they got up for a bit each day would it delay the hatching? or have I done something wrong

Any help or advice would be good

Our broodies always get in and out of the boxes sometimes, if none of the live, hopefully not the case, we bought some chicks for our broody.

The broody gets up to eat, drink, poop, and stretch, that is normal. It is tough but be patient. I normally let the broody surprise me with what hatches and she will walk away and not return once she is certain no more will hatch.

You saw air sacks? Did you mean air cells or embryos? All eggs, including infertile eggs, have air cells.

Are the hens on separate nests? If other hens are able to go into a broodies nest broken eggs are common, and if they are sharing a nest they may fight if/when chicks hatch.

Yes did mean air cells sorry new to this, I did have the other 2 girls in the house with them for a while one may have made them get out to do her egg, but not for the last week they have been in another house now

Both broody girls in same nest pretty good together, nest is a large corner plastic tray as they are in a broody house with run (from Moles Country Store) with no extra nest boxes , they have the food and water near them incase they need it

Me that cracked the egg by mistake not the chickens
hope them getting out and dust bathing is ok - as where they are bantams has fluffy feet can get dirty to go onto the eggs

When the chicks hatch, keep an a close eye on them. If both broody hens can get to each other, some broody hens will attack the other broody hen's chicks.

Here is a picture of my girls today, sitting on the 2 hatching eggs
