So I have 1 chick stuck in the egg , its been 24 hours, i carefully removed a little it of shell so i could see beak and monitor life, I've left in the incubator closed up and added wet paper towels to keep humidity up . afraid the membrane would dry out and have used organic coconut oil and kept the exposed part moist. 24 hours later ( now into day 22 ) shes still just peeping. yesterday afternoon was still lots of blood in the membrane which looks a lot better now but still no progress.

do i need to just chill? Its driving me bananas... Any advice would be helpful , i have read the guides. I've been glued to this site for weeks

So it's been 24 hours now from when the chick externally pipped? How does the membrane look now? I would start to carefully open the shell over the air cell. After that is done, apply coconut oil to the membrane to assess how far along absorption is. If everything looks good, you can assist the chick out of the egg.

Detailed instructions on how to do that can be found here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/guide-to-assisted-hatching-for-all-poultry.72886/

X2. I would add that in my experience if a chick can not get out the shell itself then it is likely weak and may not survive. I personally do help if it’s clear the chick isn’t going to get out on its own but the survival rate is about 50:50. There is a very good article somewhere on assisted hatches. If I can find it I’ll post the link. I’m sure you’ll find it very helpful. Best of luck and do let us know how you get on.

Yeah i did exactly that to make sure there was air getting to chick, chick looks good but I don't think its ready, i'm going to just leave her be and keep an eye on it.
