Help, baby chick has poopy butt

Hi there,

I have a baby chick that has had poopy butt since I’ve brought her home. She definitely has a GI problem or something. Her vent looks a little raw. There’s poop stuck around the entrance that’s white I do t want to try and remove. Not sure what to do. I switches to medicated food hoping that would help. It didn’t. She eats all the time and drinks but haven’t really grown. I was feeding them electrolyte and probiotics in there water the first weekand a half but I’ve had them now for a month. Any suggestions on what I can do to stop the poppy butt or how I can help her overall health in general?

You'll need to continue to wash her bottom in warm water and slowly remove any poop. I've seen that heat can lead to pasty butt. What the temperature in the brooder? Some chicks just have failure to thrive. She may be one.

Keep the vent clean, using a damp paper towel, or soak in tepid (not too warm) water. A blocked vent can kill them. Make sure it's not getting too hot. You might want to check into Coccidiosis, and get it it started on Corid.

the poop runs down her butt to her belly. The picture I took I just cleaned her up

I’ve been keeping her vent clean and checking it everyday. she’s running around and Is doing all the stuff the others are doing. She’s just really small. She chirps a lot too. Eats a lot and drinks a lot. She’s active and sometimes falls asleep in the food bowl standing up.

ok, I was hoping that wasn’t going to be the case but I’ll continue to keep her comfortable and clean.

I’ve been keeping the temperature at 80 it’s hot here so sometimes it gets to 85. I only turn the light on at night when it’s cold. The garage is well insulated so it’s nice and cozy. I’ll keep cleaning her up. She seems to be doing fine otherwise. Thank you for your reply.

Any other suggestions? I don’t want to do any damage to her little system. Can I put apples cider vinegar in the water? Or what do people feel about feeling there chick DE food grade of courses. And what about feeding them Greek yogurt?

I did some research when mine developed pasty butts, so I added a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to their water supply (gallon jug).. it also provides nutrients.
