Help! Baby duck with eye problems...

Thanks, she is doing a bit better. Her eyes aren't so swollen, but I still don't know for sure. Our family always takes in the "not perfect", if you know what I mean? lol! I also have a brown African Goose. That's why we got the little duck. We used to have other ducks, but they are no longer with us, so we figured our goose, "Snips" would really enjoy a new friend, and not just chickens! Thanks for your well wishes too.

Keep us updated on how the lil one is doing and how it goes when snips meets it. My gander loves ducklings..

I sure will, thanks so much! I see you live in Western N.C. The hubby and I go up to Hendersonville in October for about 3 weeks every year, I so love it. When he retires, we hope to get a small place up there so that we can go up whenever we want to!!

It really is Gods Country.. We are originally from Fl born there. we're about 75-80 miles north east of Hendersonville. We decided not to wait till retirement to move to the mountains I am so glad we did.

That's funny, because I'm Florida born also! Only from S. Florida! I just love the mountains, its so peaceful and beautiful. Can't wait to get back there. Update on the duckie for you, she looks a bit better. I think the ointment is helping some. I'm just afraid that she will need the surgery in the end though. My daughter has already accepted the fact. What we do for our critters, right?!

I hope she won't but sounds like your ready if that is a possibility. She'll be loved and cared for what ever happens Thanks for updating and please let us know.

When you do come back let me know if you decide to take a ride north up the parkway.

H Lydia! The vet called yesterday and told me that the culture had come back, and its E-coli! I said WHAT??? He said it really isn't all that uncommon. Because of all the poop that they do, it can get into their eyes and cause it. I didn't know that?? Anyway, he told me that the ointment that I'm using now with 3 types of antibiotics, only one of them will help with this. So tomorrow, I'm going to go over and pick up a different ointment especially for E-coli. He says to try it for 2 weeks and we'll see where we're at. She does look better, most of the swelling is gone, but not all of it. So, lets keep our fingers crossed, shall we? I'll keep you posted. And to answer you, I'd love to come up your way! I just love the mountains!!

Goodness at least you know now and can treat it with new ointment. Lets hope that takes care of it. I am glad she is already doing better. At least now it sounds like surgery won't be necessary.

Looks like our little one, or should I say not so little one anymore, is going to need the surgery after all.

Spoke with the vet today, and told him how she is doing. All the infection is gone, but the thing with her bottom eyelid is still the same. He quoted a price of anywhere between $535.00 to $630.00. A lot of money, but less than we thought it would be. I told my daughter, and she said it was okay too. Just wish that the antibiotic would have been enough. I'll keep you updated.

Thank you! An update...... we're back from the vet, and she has had surgery on her eyes. The vet said that he has not really seen anything like this before. He got out as much of the tissue as he could, now all we can do is wait and see. She doesn't seem to mind one bit either! They said that she was up and eating and preening herself! Good news, right? Also, the surgery cost a bit less, which is a good thing! I know it will make the daughter happy, lol. We go for a re-check next week. She has to take oral antibiotics, along with the eye ointment as well. I'll keep everyone posted.
