Sorry for the pic quality..only had my iPhone. No detectable spurs on either chicken.

I think I can see sickle feathers on Freddy, but it's really hard to tell with the photo quality. Getting clear shots with good lighting from above would help a lot with these two, I'm guessing.

Yes, my poor little Buddy is the one I almost lost when he scalped himself from right behind his comb to halfway down his neck. We think he got his head stuck thru the wire. I nursed and nursed, thought I'd lose him for sure, but he's doing great..never knew there was a thing wrong except for the last bit of skin to grow back. He's also very sweet and not as skittish as Freddy, most likely because I had to handle him and love on him so much. Also, if it makes a difference, they both "talk" more like girls!

I think so, too, but I'm not sure if Buddy being ill for a while might have just put him slightly behind his brother..so maybe that's why their feathers are doing different things?? Buddy is slightly smaller than Freddy, too, but very healthy.

no debate, definitely a roo and definitely not a Barred Rock. He is Barred, but i don't think it is Marans either, too much leg feathering. Looks to have game, and maybe some bantom that is feather legged.

Freddy is definitely a cockerel. Good looking saddle feathers. I don't see any on Buddy yet. And for future reference, spurs don't indicate gender. There are many hens out there with spurs that would put some of the boys to shame.
