Help! Broody may have abandoned 8 one-day-old chicks!!

Maybe before you let mama hen sit next time you can make a small secure fenced in place for her and chicks doesn’t have to be real large but they sure do like to get their chicks out pretty quick after hatch and start teaching them

Not

Not a place that is safe from predators
Your other posts indicate your broody set up has left your chicks is a position they cannot get to their mother. She is standing there and puffed because she's asking them to follow. I also saw you said you gave her a couple of her chicks, but not all. I honestly let my broodies brood amongst their coop .So go ahead and give her all her babies and let her care for them in the safest place you have from predators.

And I totally get it. Not being a B-word. Just thinking of the entire scenario.

So as it cooled down in the evening last night she was back sitting on them and this morning. When it got hot again she got back out again. So I do believe it was due to heat. But a lot of you were 100% right that she wanted them to follow her. 5 of the 9 came of the box on their own today and she got less puffed up and was acting very happy!! Thank you everyone for your help!
