help! 3 of my 6 week old chicks(there are 8) are pecking one of them...should I move him some were? they used to all get along fine! we think their are 4 boys.
Is there any visible wound area on the target bird? What are the dimensions of the area they are currently in? Are they inside (in a brooder) or have they been transitioned outside? Are you able to reconfigure the area they are in to create more interest in investigating the new digs than there is in harassing the target bird? While separation may be necessary (ie if actual harm has already been done which will invite further targeting of the wounded area), you may be able to address this issue in other ways first.
As far as gender - if you post photos of the birds in question we can help you with that.
Relax. This is a very common problem, and it would last long. There are things you can do that don't require separating the chicks.
I wrote an article to help folks such as yourself deal with this. Read it, and you'll find lots of easy ways to being peace to your brooder again. It's the last article of four linked below my post.
