In my experience though a neck-bone poking out like that is going to lead to a severed/crushed/damaged spine, paralysis, death in pretty short order.ok, I will try... I can't feel the crop... these birds are SUPER SMALL!

thanks, what is little dan quail? I don't think the mom is heavy enough to hurt on like that.Asking the gallery here, but could Momma Quail have stepped on little Dan Quail's neck to cause something like this? Also, here's something I found randomly... Not specific to quail, per se, but birds are birds right? Evolved from the same veloci-raptors more or less?

Political humour - joke. Clearly I missed...thanks, what is little dan quail? I don't think the mom is heavy enough to hurt on like that.
sorry.
there doesn't seem to be any swelling.I am sorry about your baby. One of my dogs has a sternum bone that sticks out a bit. If it looks like the bone is stable (I am not suggesting trying to move it) then maybe a deformed bone that juts out? I do not know about birds and their anatomy, but you have not noticed any injury.
Is there swelling around the bone (do quail swell with injuries)?
ok thanks, pine shavings, I can't find any quail feed, but I have the highest protein, non-gmo, non-medicated chick starter, wild bird seed, parakeet grit, mealworms and nutria-drench. 3 days. no other chicks affected.Hey girl!Everything will be okay, I'm sure
Pick the chick up carefully, have someone else hold it if you must, and get us some good clear pictures of the problem area, okay?
Might you know the answers to some of these question?
-What bedding are you using?
-What feed are they on (quail need different feed than chicken chicks)
-How long have the symptoms persisted?
-Are any other chicks affected?
Typically quail are fed gamebird chick feed; the kind used for turkeys and pheasants. I would aim for at least 22% protein.sorry.
