Yesterday, I helped this little one out of its shell after I noticed it was stuck in there for 10+ hours. It looked weak and fumbled around a bit and its toes were curled and legs look splayed at times. I followed some of your advice and left it alone overnight to check its condition the next day.
The next day (today), I see it look livelier than yesterday except that one of its legs straightened out behind it! The other leg is fine. I've tried gently bending it but it goes back to the way it was.

My mom kind of left raising and hatching her quails for her which is my first time doing. I've also never treated injuries or malformations before and honestly too scared to try but I might try anyway, even if it doesn't work out? I just feel so bad. My mom says that if I'm too busy bc of my schedule and responsibilities to help it she says to left it suffer/cull it. I've tried scattering food around it and dipping its beak in the water but its not interested in either. What can I do?

I'd end it's suffering.

99.99% of the time if a quail chick cannot make it out of the shell on its own... Something is wrong with it.

I just checked more closely and it looks like the top of the foot of the weird leg is swollen. Can't get a picture while holding it to see clearly.

just wondering how do you quickly and painlessly cull a baby quail? 😢

Poor baby. I have absolutely no experience in culling, but I suggest quickly chopping the head off. Don't suffocate or squish because drowning sucks and is horrifying and the quail might survive the stomping, so just chop the head off. I'm so sorry that you've resorted to this, but I guess this is the best you can do for it. Rest in peace baby chick :(

The same day i made this post i ended up compressing the baby between my palms with its back against one and it's feet against the other kind of like gently squishing it so it was stuck in a sitting position and I held it like that for a bit. After, it's leg was no longer straightened out behind it and it was walking. Fast forward to today, it's running around and eating/drinking normally. I hope I did the right thing.
