I wanted her to but she has no desire

Some day she will. I think both incubating and letting a broody handle it are both very rewarding. Mostly depends on my intentions. If I need chicks to sell, I'd rather incubate them myself, rather than take them away from a momma that was committed to them for 3 solid weeks! I feel horrible removing them. But increasing my flock is much MUCH easier done by a willing momma!

I would much rather her hatch them.
How do I know when she is ready? Do I just leave the eggs alone until she is?

She will start spending more time in the nest box. May even start trying to hide eggs. You can leave a couple and see if that entices her, but if she's not interested, she's not.

What breed? Some are more prone to broodiness than others.

Darn it! She is my baby, and I really want one of her babies. I tried to incubate, it was a disaster. :he

I just feel bad for the babies that didn't make it.

I know exactly how you feel.
My last incubation I had 3 out of 13 hatch, when I opened the 10 others and saw all the little guys dead in their shells I felt responsible. Like maybe if I was better experienced, or maybe if I had tried to assist hatching them, but I don't think there was anything I could have done, all advice was leave them alone and let nature take it's course.
Now I have a bator full that are due in eight days and last candling there wasn't much movement so I don't know if any of these ones will hatch. :caf:fl
