Help chick hatched too early.

Yeah its so good. I think keeping them in a cup is actually what saved them and if I kept them laying flat I think they would have died.

I think you're right about that. I have filed that info away under "Other people's experiences that would be helpful if, God forbid, it happens to me"!

So cute. I wish my first time broody mama would of took her chick but she killed the first one that hatched and tried to kill this one.
I think it is heart melting seeing a mama with her baby chicks

They survived! And now they’re all fluffy and chirping so I put them back with their mom at 2 in the morning. The yellow one still has some sort of yolk thing that’s really just veins left and I think it’ll just dry up and fall off. The black one has nothing left. I’ll get a picture as soon as I can it’s a bit dark in the coop so it’s hard to get one. Now I have another chick in the hospital she wasn’t strong enough to hatch and her membrane dried all up so I helped and she got a bit bloody so until she’s dry I’ll be keeping her in the cup.

Not all broody chickens are actually meant to be moms, I think sometimes they just like to incubate and that’s it. My hen right now isn’t my best mom but she tries her best, she’s a bit clumsy with her chicks at times.

@KikisGirls helped me out a lot. It was our first time having a broody hen and she just freaked when the eggs hatched only 1 out of 6 made it. She just wanted to sit on eggs

I haven’t had that problem but I’ve heard about it before and I’ve been lucky to have a hen that doesn’t do that. I had 6 eggs under her and so far only 3 have hatched and one egg was accidentally killed by the mother another was infirtile and another still hasn’t hatched.

Well I thought all was going well but now the yellow chick seems awfully sleepy compared to the black chick that was with her earlier. Is she just tired or is she sick?
