And yes I did have to help.

How much did you help. BecauseI was looking at the shell it hatched out of,and it doesnt look like a zipped shell.

Yeah I agree, That chick doesnt look like it had the strenth to hatch on its own, and they way the shell looks it doesnt look like it hatched itself.

Mrs. Brown, I'm sorry. such a small thing to cry over but we put so much of ourselves into those darn birds. Try another hatch and love the ones who do well.

It is also my opinion that it didn't have the strength to live; she already said she helped it, and her helping it really didn't matter since it's not like she was going to make it die twice. No need to interrogate her and make her feel worse than she does.

Agree!
I think all of us at one point or another want to help the chick..........I have to resist and keep telling myself ......if Mother Nature wants it to live, it will make it out of that egg. I have one that has been trying all day to get out of the egg......I am making myself not. I don't blame a person when they do, our hearts tell us one thing, brain is saying the other, hard enough. We love these babies.......
More hugs!

Hatching is a beautiful, terrifying, heart-rending, terrifying, breathtaking, did I mention terrifying? process and we all feel like crap when we see our babies die despite our best efforts or because of our best efforts. So all we can do is try to help each other, even when helping each other means saying "BACK AWAY FROM THE BATOR, CRAZY LADY".

Mrs. Brown, I'm so sorry about your babies and in light of two bad hatches I recommend a break and some TSC chick therapy. You don't want to go gray before your time. When you're ready to try again we'll talk you through the whole thing from start to finish and if you take the advice of the old-timers on this board you'll end up with some homegrown fuzzy butts in your brooder.

Happy hatching to all, and to all a good night.
