Help! Chicken Gasping For Air

Sumatrass, that sounds like it could be ILT, but MG, bronchitis, and coryza can be similar. ILT can cause the severe gasping. Aspergillosis from mold will cause gasping also. I would not treat birds who are not yet showing symptoms, since this can cause antibiotic resistance. Since some of the diseases are viruses that have to run their course, you may not see a whole lot of improvement, but the antibiotic may help prevent secondary infections. Tylan 50 injectible is a stronger antibiotic, and you can give 1 ml for 5 lb and over, 1/2 ml for under 5 lb, and 1/4 ml for bantams daily for 3-5 days as a shot or by mouth. California offers free necropsies on chickens at UC Davis (link at bottom.) Here is a good link for reading about these diseases as well as a link for finding testing for your chicken:

Thanks I will keep an eye on her and if she doesn't get better i will try the shot, All the other birds have been taking the medicine for the last 11 days so now im worried that i might of messed them up since they never showed signs of being sick.

No, you didn't mess them up. ILT sometimes causes bloody mucus from the nose and mouth in case you see anything like that. Also Duramycin 10 needs to be given at the maximum 800mg dosage which is 1 tablespoonful per gallon, and adding a little citric acid (available in the canning supplies at stores,) may help it be better absorbed.

I have a month old chick that got attacked by my dog she has 2 cuts on her head it looks like its just skin deep shes not bleeding but it looks rough, what can i do? I have her in a box by herself in my room i put water and food.

Back to my RIR I found her this morning paralyzed I have her in a small crate in the shade she i s still coughing, i uses a syringe to give her some medicated water and probiotics. Im going to try tylon50 today.

I was reading the symptoms on different diseases (Thanks eggcessive) and It seems like it could also be New castles disease, Im thinking of vaccinating all my chickens for that, Is this vaccine the one that you administer through the eyes or mouth, and is it a good aidea to do this even if the current problem im having might not be that?I have 3 one month old chicks, and two 3 month old, and five between 4 and 6 months. If my chicken makes it after all this will it be safe to put her back in to my healthy flock?

If they don't get better I suggest you utilize the free necropsy service in California. The San Benadino lab is about a 40 minute drive from Quail Valley.
