HELP CHICKEN GOT ATTACKED BY DOG

What is ironic, not funny haha, but funny strange, is that a lot of people ignore nature and natural animalistic instincts.

Do not get upset at Dogs for doing Dog things.
I find it odd that anyone would react to a post in which someone is asking for help after any animal attacked another with a laughing emoji and then pass it off as 'hey, don't blame the animal for acting like an animal.'

Helping the injured (SERIOUSLY INJURED) chicken is the primary concern. It's not even a little bit funny.

Secondary is what to do about the dog & how to ensure that NEVER happens again. Also, not funny & "don't blame an animal for it's instincts" isn't providing much in the way of prevention for any future issues.

So why must stating that laughing about the primary & excusing the secondary be the tertiary concern?

@BarredRockMom

If you go back and read my post, I clearly stated it was "Ironic" NOT laughable funny. There is a difference.

Prevention is the answer. Pointing that out to new chicken owners is imperative to the lives of the chickens (or any other livestock or pet).

The reality is that predators exist in nature. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Hope this clears things up for you!

Hi reddogmaster2. I personally didn't see anything wrong with your comment even the ones previous. She got attacked because she recently was moved to a new area and got out. My chihuahua although small just get really jealous especially since I have added new chickens to the mix. I've fixed the area for them so no one can get out or in. I appreciate the suggestions you have because I am a new chicken owner.0

That means a lot to me, thanks!

I put a lot of thought and effort into the design of our coop & run based on experience from many knowledgable chicken wranglers and it has served me well.

My very best to you with your chickens and enjoy the weekend!

That's what I'm thinking - likely dead skin along with a scab - really hard to tell from the photo.
I would put some triple antibiotic ointment on the pink/healthy skin underneath there/along the edges. In time that hanging part will like fall off.
so update with my chicken. she is getting better but still isn’t eating on her own. i wonder if it still hurts her because she can move her neck around and tried to pick stuff off her back. also her comb is a shade or two darker. her wattle is the normal red color though. is that something i should be concerned about? she is also molting. other than that she’s back to being her regular self

Can you get a video of her moving? Upload video to youtube and provide a link.
Can she walk now?
Can she eat at all on her own?

I'll get a video in the morning. She is walking a little but not as much as she would before the injury. She isn't really eating a ton on her own. I still have to feed her. Should I be concerned?
