They will use all of that room, the ~4 sq ft per bird is just a rule of thumb. That is a good size coop, and then I am sure that they will get some time out in the run or the yard, on top of that. Black Sex-links are usually pretty calm. I had Leghorns that picked on all the other mixed birds -- you have to try them all when you're just getting started, you know. You did good getting all one type, as a new chicken keeper the temptation is to get one of each kind and that makes it tough for them all to get along. I learned the hard way that the Leghorns needed their own flock. Your birds sound more like young Leghorns with all that action! They will be great, energetic, foragers.I have 20 and the coop is 120 ft that they are moving into- but I think they are getting on each other’s nerves. I have some divas in the group
That’s good info, thank you. Our run will be about 500 sq feet- is that a good size? Also my garden is next to them so fall and winter they will have another 500.. hope that is good?
