Help! Day 7 & Incubator Knocked HARD

I woke up to my first pip!!! Got up around 3 a.m. and didn't see anything, but by 6:30, I can see 2 spots its been knocking on. Gonna be a long day.

What's up with yours?

Haaaayyyyyy!!!!!

Sorry it has taken so long to get back with you. We have had a lot going on lately (trying to buy a house *sucks*) and those chicks gave me soooo much trouble! This was just a rough hatch all the way around, that I know, must have been affected by the jolt in the beginning. Then with the temp fluctuations, etc etc....sigh.

I had to attempt to help all the others out. Waited too long with 2, and they passed. The other 2 hatched, and one had splay leg. I'm sure from being in there too long. I fixed it mostly with a band aid "brace" and now it gets around fine after 3 days of it.

I wing sexed them, and looks like I've got 6 pullets and 3 cockerels. The 3 boys are EEs. One of which is the splay leg, and noticed today the other is cross beaked. I'll probably cull him in the next few days. I don't want him going through the likely starvation, and I don't need any roosters anyways. The other 2 will be raised for meat.

The good thing is that they are all happy, fuzzy, sweet, and cute now. I'm using a rabbit "ball-waterer" in the brooder for them and they and I both love it! Maybe you should try it? I will take pics tomorrow for you btw. And thank you for sending the video. I could see it in there too! I need a better flashlight lol!

How did yours go? I hope your hatch was better than mine

Well that's some good news and some bad news... but hey, at least there was some good! Definitely like to hear more about the ball-waterer. Sounds interesting.

I feel your pain if you are moving. Went through it myself, 2 years ago this week. Always a PITA! So best wishes with that!

My update... still ongoing haha! First one finally hatched Saturday afternoon, the next one a few hours later, then the turkey hatched!! I was so surprised. A pleasant surprise! While that was all happening, a couple more pipped. One broke the shell toward the floor, and outside the air sac, but very close. Had another one hatch last night, and the one with the hole outside the sac is still working. But it is chirping loudly and appears not to be in distress yet. It made a little more progress last night, broke another chunk of shell away. I'm hoping that having the current one in the bator with it, that it will encourage it to come on out. Its only been about 38-40 hours, so I'm going to give it a bit longer, before I break the air sac end of the shell off. Hopefully I won't have too. I'm at work today, hoping it will be out when I get home!

I had 3 other eggs at lockdown that I could still see moving, but didn't look great at that point... they haven't pipped and have been bowled around pretty good, but they are still in there. I expect they quit in the last few days. Will confirm when I get these last 2 guys out.

Here are the first 2 and the turkey:

And this was the first one out. Could it be any cuter? lol

Oh wow, Congrats!!!

Tiggy is beautiful! And I'm so jealous of your sister in law. I would love to have a little blue turkey! We had to cull my husbands bourbon red and I've been on the lookout for a reliable source for another little tom.
I'm glad things worked out for you!
Sorry I've been so late getting pics up. I've been so distracted with everything lately, plus I'm working with a couple of young horses at a 2nd farm now, so I'm currently shuffling 2 jobs, school, and full time mommyhood...oh and attempting to buy a house ugggghhh.
Anyway here they are!

The first 3 are my supposed "girls" from my possible tolbunt polish/sizzle/frizzle eggs. I don't think any are going to frizzle, but the black one may end up sizzled. Sorry if thats confusing lol. The black one is definitely the sweetest of the bunch

The 2nd pic is of my 3 supposed "boys" and all are from the EE eggs. @ of 3 have issues. My little frumpy guy is one the left. He was the one with splay leg from being in the egg too long. As you can tell, he's smaller also. Both of the white/yellow chicks appear to be splash colored. My professor confirmed he has some splash EEs so that must be where it's from lol. The guy on the right is the crossbeak gentlemen. Lucky for him, my sister in law wants him as a yard pet....I'm withholding that I believe it's a boy lol. She'll find out on her own eventually. She has a yard hen that also has crossbeak that she has to trim, so they can be lovers and he'll live happily ever after

The third picture is of my "girls" from my EE eggs. One splash, not sure of the others yet. I only know that they're father is a red Am/EE, so who knows what colors they'll turn out

Overall, I'm happy with the hatch bc I figured it would be affected from the moment they all got slung out of their places and jostled/cracked in the incubator. Next time though, I will do better. It's always a learning experience

PS: Thanks for ignoring the "hideous" lamp -as my husband calls it- in the background!

Oh my goodness, they are all absolutely beautiful!! I especially love the little black polish. Too dang cute! And tell hubby the "hideous" lamp makes a perfect backdrop!
I'm becoming quite partial to my little turkey and not sure if I can give him up now lol. I was at the feed store yesterday and picked out 2 adorable little Golden Comet chicks that I brought home and put in a separate brooder with the turkey. The ducks were picking on him a little and running him out of the food and water. He seems quite happy with the little chicklets, so we'll see. He is growing so fast, I can't believe how fast the flight feathers are coming in!

I'm so proud of us! Lol

Thanks a bunch! I love them all so much already

. Well the girls anyway. I try to remain impartial to the cockerels when we have them. Bc I know I can't keep them in the long run. It's not like roosters are all that pleasant anyway once their big boy hormones kick in lol. I totally would be stingey and keep the turkey if it were me!
BTW, did the little poult come from your stock, or was it a gifted egg?

I got all the eggs from a local gal. We knew she had turkey eggs but she wasn't sure they were fertile yet. My SIL wanted the turkey eggs, so when I went to get my duck eggs, the gal threw in 4 turkey eggs free. 2 bourbon reds, and 2 slates. I couldn't get them to my SIL, so I threw them in the bator with the ducks. One BR was infertile, and one of each quit very early. Like day 8-10. But the one little guy made it!

And this is basically the beginning of my "stock". I had 3 drakes and 5 roosters that the SIL needed to get rid of, but lost the drakes in the snow storm a couple months ago and lost 3 roos to predators. Still have a beautiful dark Brahma and a gorgeous mutt roo.
Hoping tomorrow to pick up lavendar orpington eggs to start a new hatch!
