**HELP** Depue illinois Police came today said I have one week to get rid of chickens!

I went to the mayor's house and showed him all of my paperwork my sons autism diagnosis papers and my doctors notes along with pictures Of my silkies and their pen outside.he said that respect me for going about it in a kind manner. He is going to take my papers and present them to the city attorney. And they are going to hold off on the fines for now. He did not give me a time frame as to how long it could take.

Me too! I have two Ancona ducks too but I don't think I will push to keep them as much because the boy is pretty loud at times and its usually first thing in the morning. But I have a good friend I met on here that only lives a couple hours away and she is more than willing to take them for me and maybe someday down the line I can get eggs from them and hatch some more babies

Well done getting all that paperwork done and seeing the mayor. From the sounds of it, you just don't need any more stress, and losing your chickens would be so stressful. I really really hope they let you keep them!

After its all done I may try attempting to change the law for chickens in the city

Another thing you can try is see if your village allows "exotic pets? They are still pets, if exotic. You might try to call the poultry exotic pets , since they are endangered or rare. Have you doctor certify the birds as therapy or service animals. Check online there are several lists with folk who have all kinds of service/assistance. therapy creatures. is there a case on file somewhere that had poultry declared as service/therapy animals?

after talking to the marriage of the day they said they would hold off on fines and yesterday the chief of police came to my house and served me with the paper that said I have a nuisance on my property and that I have 48 hours to get rid of them. I took the policeman into my backyard showed him my coop and my 3 silkies and he said they were the cutest things he has ever seen and that housing was not only adorable but extremely clean and he went back and talked to the city attorney and then he came back to the house and told me that they recommend I go in front of the city bored on Monday at 7 o'clock so I have been writing out my speech along with getting all of my legal papers in doctors notes and it's a matter of waiting for Monday to come now.

can we stay in touch? I would like to know what worked or didnt work for you. i'm also autistic. I have few interests; the animals are one. they are the only interest that gets me to interact with people, especially neighbours. Before them, I'd be so scared and duck behind a bush or house to avoid a neighbour. I still am anxious and takes me time to work up to it, but I go share eggs with neighbours. Neighbours come with their kids/grandkids to watch the animals and I will talk to them about the animals and give them treats to feed them. We are in DuPage county IL, and after keeping poultry for many years, someone is complaining (several people have told me they think it is someone we reported for animal abuse, as we started to get bogus complaints about the pets after that.
