Help duckling has puncture wound in crop foods coming out of it

I'm sorry this has happened to your duck. Sounds like she may have stabbed herself on something even a stick poking into her could cause this. Follow Eggcessives info.
One thing that is bothering me though is you say they are free ranging 24/7 how do you do this without predators carrying them off?
It's only till the ducklings are adults the coop situation isn't great so i felt it was better for them to not be stuck in a tight space with all the adult birds who aren't their mom's.

I mostly worry about neighborhood cats getting them, all of the neighbors pretty much have dogs that are outside that bark at things so Im sure they help keep things away.

There's also lots of prairie dogs and rabbits for things to hunt and no trees so not many hawks living close by. When the ducklings are adults and we get our second coop back up I'm gonna start locking them all up at night possibly sooner.

I don't really know how big the hole is but i don't believe it's much bigger than what you can see in the pictures. She wasn't happy I had to grab her to get them. It's not really having anything coming out of it anymore to hopefully nothings going into the abdominal cavity.

So how should I use the vetricyn spray and any other thing on her wound?

Should we glue it back together or would it probably be better to just keep it clean and let it do it's own thing?

Should I feed her at all in the next few hours or anything? I feel like her crop should be empty of food so it'll easier to close up (so food isn't getting things dirty and getting in places it shouldn't be) if we do sew her up or glue her wound or anything like that.

I tried to get better photos of the wound but their not very good quality.

I trimmed the feathers near the wound and squirted saline on the wound a few times.

And took a little bit of Hydrogen peroxide on a paper towel next to it, which I think the paper towel soaked to much of the peroxide up for it to work.

Should I spray some vetricyn on it? I've never used vetrycin before.

She's got water and has some puppy training pads in there and some extra cushioning to prevent her from feeling the bars of the kennel.

After her feathers have been all trimmed up and after the saline. My phone can't focus properly half the time when I try getting pictures of the wound. I feel so bad for Tiny she keeps picking at it obviously it's not very comfy.

She's preening and drank some water before I cleaned her up a little bit more.

How do I use the vetricyn on a wound like hers? 20230819_212507.jpg

Just be spray on it since you have the feathers clipped it should be easy to treat. They heal so fast hopefully in a few days she’ll be good as new. It will still be healing but shouldn’t be leaking. Main thing is watch for infection. Don’t use hydrogen peroxide again.

That's what I did last night thanks. Im not sure if the peroxide even really got on her yesterday.

So how should I feed her today? I'm not going to attempt to glue the wound or anything I don't think it's going to help, but I also don't want anything to get worse with the injury.
