HELP! Duckling hatched with twisted leg!!

Thank you!! I really really REALLY hope so he is still drying in the bator and as soon as i get him into my transition brooder i will take pics and post them. What are some of your best splint hacks...

Your little Duckling is probably still absorbing his yolk in his belly so that's the reason it's feet are not open. I place those into a margarine container in the incubator till they find their feet.

Best wishes..I've hatched many and within 24 hours they are up on their feet after resting and absorbing the yolk..

Happyhatcher was the Cayuga yolk sac not absorbed when it hatched this morning? If not then that’s the only time I’ve ever seen it suggested to put the duckling in a container.

Yolk doesn't have to be protruding from the navel to cause issues. Each baby suffers its own problems with hatching.
Experience helps when dealing with these situations. I haven't lost one yet to the condition.

It’s actually a really common solution. It works, too!

For what though protruding yolk sac yes? That is what I’ve heard it used for.

Lots of times they are active and walking around immediately, others take longer to get their legs under them. I usually just leave them in the incubator until they are walking around pretty well on their own. Separating them from others by using a bowl is fine, but if they are just trying to find their legs, I think confining them to a bowl could make that take longer. Depends on the situation. A pic of the duckling would be nice.

For what though protruding yolk sac yes? That is what I’ve heard it used for.

If other ducklings are stepping on it or messing with it, a bowl is a great separation device.
