Seems I am using this forum a lot right now. I just got an order from cackle hatchery this morning, and all the chicks (bantams) were alive, but one is acting weird. Can't walk right, keeps falling over, and its head is twisting sideways towards its back. It's chirping a little, but I can't get it to eat or drink. It seems to do worse when I move it under the heating lamp, twisting around on the bedding and gasping, so I don't think that it's chilled. Any suggestions as to how I can help it?

Look up Wry Neck. If that's what you think he has, feed him a small amount of molasses. It worked for a chick of mine who had wry neck and he made a full recovery. Please don't cull him until he gets another chance! I didn't cull mine and he's grown into a beautiful young cockerel.

Ok, so eating isn't super important yet.Drop a little sugar water on its beak and just try to keep it comfy.Make sure your brooder isn't too hot and hope for the best. Sometimes shipping just takes a toll do try and get a little water in it.Between the hatchery and shipping all you can do for the little thing is try to hydrate a bit keep a good temperature and cross your fingers.

It seems to be doing a bit better. Moving better at any rate, though not yet as well as the other chicks. Might have been dehydration, as I did get it to drink sugar water, and it drank quite a bit from the syringe without any encouragement needed. It's currently burrowed itself into my shirt and gets really vocal when I move a bit. I guess I freaked out a bit quickly. Sorry about that.

I hate cackle hatchery, they don't put grow gel just in case of the munchies. Murray Mcmurray is better
