If you punish your children for feeling heartbroken, I shudder to think how you treat them in their day-to-day lives. Truly. And your poor chickens. Are you telling the whole truth?? Why are we spending hundreds of dollars on hardware cloth and installing electric fences if raccoons don't eat baby chicks? I need some coons like that here!

Actually, because of raccoon's natural maternal instincts, they are literally impossible of eating baby chicks. They're nature's little fuzz balls

What's going on is probably better than it sounds to you. If my kids are yelling and breaking things to their own parents, anyone would punish them.

It's a high upfront investment - several batches of chicks completely destroyed - but after a while the raccoons get so full and fat that they can't move anymore, so your subsequent chickens will be safe. You just need to be patient and keep trying until it works Might end up costing the same as the HC in the end, so I don't know if it's worth it, but at least it's less work. HC is pokey and annoying to install. Yeah, the raccoon tactic is probably better.
