Newbie chicken mom. Just noticed my 12 week old Sage Egger pullet's face is swollen on one side. Her beak seems splayed and there is swelling in her mouth. Any idea what this could be? What can I do to help her?

Thank you!!

I'm no expert, but that looks like Swollen Head Syndrome, caused by a bacterial infection and most common among broilers. Another possibility is Fowl Pox with possible secondary infection in the sinuses. Most people recommend isolation immediately, with Apple Cider Vinegar added to her drinking water. I'm just guessing based on symptoms and photos. I hope she gets better soon!

That definitely looks like a respiratory (or at least a bad sinus) infection with the skin bulging out like that.
Can you hear any rattling, rasping, bubbling or gurgling when she breathes? The open mouth suggests she's having difficulty breathing.

Do you have any antibiotics on hand? If it is fowl pox they won't help, but if it's bacterial they would definitely be a good idea.

No antibiotics. I have VetRx. I put some in her water with some olive oil. I've had another pullet making strange noises. Where can I get antibiotics and which one?

This is most likely a respiratory illness.

How long have you had this bird and where did you get her?

Is a vet an option?

You will most likely need antibiotics to help her.

Vetrx and olive oil are not going to help.

Where about do you live?

Tylan 50 is good for respiratory infections, but if it's out of stock where you live like it is where I am, Enrofloxacin (Baytril) is a good alternative. Broad spectrum. Good stuff. They sell it on a site that has meds for pigeons.
