Help-Gosling hatching-do I help?

I am glad I helped it, the membrane was rubbery and tough. I think it dried out and I doubt he would have been able to break it...

The membranes of waterfowl eggs are always rubbery, they remind me of a thin sheet of foam rubber. It will turn white when it gets its feathers.

It's been a while since I hatched a goose so I don't remember specifically, but I know my ducklings seem to poop before they are even out of the shell.

I have a white Sebastopol gosling, Sebastian, that was bright yellow when he hatched. The pictures below don't accurately reflect the intensity of the yellow. He's 10 days old now and he's a beautiful creamy yellow color.

Those are really cute pics! My little one is still in the hatcher. I will leave him in there until he is stronger. He is having a little trouble holding up his head. Is this normal? He can hold it up about 50% of the time, then rests like he is tired. At how what age he need food and water? 24hrs?

They are okay up to 3 days old. When the gosling is inside the egg their neck is bent and curved a lot so that it fits. It will take a little while for him to figure out how to hold it, but eventually he'll get control of the thing
