Help!!! (GRAPHIC)

Worrying is actually good because it shows you have a motherly love for them. If you didn't worry, then I'd be concerned. Yep, waking up early is also something chicken people do when their chicken is hurt or they're incubating eggs. A couple years ago, I had to cancel some really fun plans because one of my hens got attacked so bad I thought she'd die. You could see a few veins sticking out of her and it was all just one big bloody mess. I sprayed her with the Blu-Kote and put her inside to heal, and she pulled thru great! It was hard for me to explain to the non-chicken owners why I couldn't go with them to the fun event, though.

Oh goodness so glad your baby pulled through!! Yeah I had plans yesterday with my mom and a class I was going to. Had to cancel all that. My neighbor had a small get together for her grandsons birthday and the only reason I could go is our back doors are 10 feet apart lol! So I could still check on the baby and doctor it.

(Update)
Named the baby O-ren and now it's eating unassisted!! Not dry food but like a paste I made. Soooooo happy!!

Thank you! It's quite something to tell someone, "I'm sorry, but I can't come because of my chicken."

That's wonderful! Is her head healing up as well?

Yes!! I started to notice yesterday that it's not just bone up there anymore but tissue is actually starting to develop! It's amazing. As long as infection doesn't set up little O-ren should be good as new :) well probably bald all of its life lol but alive nonetheless

That's very good! I've never had a chicken get an infection, so I've learned that chickens are fairly resilient to infection apparently. Don't worry, you can make her a chicken wig once she molts. jk

HAHA!! I've got a tiny cowboy hat I'm gonna try to put on her.

I had a similar thing happen, the first thing I did was to put "Blue Lotion" on the wound, that's an antiseptic wound dressing and gall lotion. You see, chickens love the color red, and they go crazy when they see it and they just keep pecking away. Once you put the "Blue Lotion" on the wound, they won't see red anymore and will usually stop pecking away. If you can separate the chicken during the day then put it back with the others at night, that would give it time to heal. You don't want to keep the injured chicken separate for too long. After about a week or so, my chicken healed nicely.
Try not to worry, hope this helps.
Blessings
Matt
