Help! Hawk Problem!

Myself I use a shotgun with blanks or very lite bird shot and fire in the general area the hawk is in. Not trying to do any harm to the hawk, just tell it to hunt somewhere else.

We have thought about doing this, but it is illegal to kill a hawk where we live.

But we do have a cat, who recently has been sitting up on the fence watching for the hawk. The hawk was by our garden once and the cat immediately ran after it.

So what did the hawk think of that?
Did it scram... or focus its attention on a bigger meatier meal?

The hawk immediately flew off, and hasn't tried to come back when the cat is around.

Update: the hawk has continued to return, and the chicks are now understanding the rooster's emergency signals. But sadly, last week he caught another chick.

I am very proud of my rooster for doing this, every time a bird flies over their ranging area (even if it is just a robin) he has trained the chicks, the silkie, and roseanna to immediately take shelter.

No do not shoot them, use blanks, or very light shot (note that the shot can be removed) (in their general direction), just make noise (it's the shock wave going by them). They will stop coming, they may stay near by, my hawks do, they will hunt up to the edge of my run, and not in the run (the pasture is ok with me). Almost every morning one is perched in an 80 some feet tall tree across the street, the mate is over the valley looking for squirrels.

We had a Bald Eagle fly over the other day. We covered our coop and have not lost any to birds yet. Free range is gonna give you these results. They will land and walk in...like to get in a kitten house on our porch. We have 12 hens 2 rooster (1 bantam). Our Spitzenhauben (sp) Rooster has made a few emergency calls. But only about opossums not big birds. He's still young...(born in April 18')
