I have two hundren chicks sitting at the post office right now that were meant to be cancelled. I checked my bank statement and they did charge me for them. I can't get in touch with them. It's cackle hatchery. What do I do! I don't have anywhere to put them and keep them seperated. I also can't afford cost on my bank statement. This is a clerical error on Cackle Hatchery's part. But I'm worried about those chick sitting at the post office. I don't knwo what to do! Any advice? I just don't know what to do!

I would pick the chicks up and get them settled, it is not their fault. You can pick up some large totes at WalMart pretty cheap to hold them in.
Cackle may not be open yet.
Do you have a name of someone you spoke to to cancel the order?
I would call the Hatchery in a bit, explain the situation, give them date, name of who you spoke to to cancel and see how they want to handle.

I'd go pick them up. Hopefully you can sell them & recoup your money.

I guess, if it were me, I would pick them up and try to find somewhere to get some water and food into them and some heat on them. The welfare of the chicks needs to come first. Maybe the bathtub(where you don't have anywhere else, until you can get ahold of Cackle.

Remember, you cancelled the order and even if they don't want to do something about taking them back, they should not charge you for them.

My impulse is to pick them up but at the same time I'm affraid that if I do that will somehow be construde as accepting the second order that was meant to be cancelled. I really can't afford the double charge and the double feed. Or going out and buying tottes for chicks that I wasn't planning on having. Not to mention extra feeders and waterers...brooder lights. All my chick items are being used right now. (Because I got the one order that I planned on) This is crazy! The post office has 200 chicks just sitting there and I don't know what to do and can't get cackle for another 30 minutes at the earliest

wow im sorry for you & those poor babies..
you could always post em in the paper or craigslist, im sure some one wld buy em just because they dont have to go thru the hassle of ordering & shipping & waiting
hope for the best for all of you

If you cant take them ,call a animal shelter or humane society and see if you cant meet up with them at the PO and if they take them. Its not their fault, they are just chicks. ETA Do you have proof that you cancled the order and confirmation that the hatchery received it?

my problem is two fold...i am worried about the chicks and I do understand that it's not their fault but at the same time I can't afford the cost of two orders. Not to mention if I were going to order 400 chicks I would have looked for a better package deal from what ever hatchery. I am by no means in a position to donate the cost of those chickens
