Help! Hen found with collapsed egg hanging from her vent!

If she doesn't want water but she seems to be strong and alert, don't force her. But if she starts getting weak and lethargic, you may need to syringe fluids into her beak.
Got it! She seems to be alert, and moving good this afternoon, so I have my hopes up! I might heat up a sock with some rice for a bit of warmth, even though she probably does need it.

A Scrappy update-
She seems to be doign good, she is alert, and I let her out to free range today, with the others, and she did great! She is running around, and seeming to be passing the egg parts. She hasn't layed in a few days, but I am assuming that is because of broken egg, and maybe on coming winter, and colder days. She has been laying every other day up until now though. I forgot to give her the Tums today and yesterday, but I will defiantly do it tomorrow. The Tums really seems to help though, I saw white yolky looking poops in her pen today, and it looks like she is passing everything! I haven seen her drink/eat, and it doesn't look like she has touched her food at all, but I don't really have a way to tell about the water. She si up and at 'em though, and seems well hydrated, so I have my hopes up! I got a bunch of OS available for the flock, and her, everything seems to be doing good! Tell me what you think!

Update- She is doign okay, she is still pooping out the egg whitey poops, and isn't as active. I see her eat and drink, but this morning I went to check her out and she must have perched on the water dish all night an dpooped in it, so she has been drinking poopy water all morning. I changed it out for some warm water, with electrolytes and probiotics, and gave her fresh food. She mostly just spends her time standing all puffed up by the door, with her eyes closed, with Sunshine, my Buff, and our 2 other SLW on the other side of the fence, hanging with her. I let her out sometimes, but she mostly just stands there the same way. I am gonna give the more TUMS and am really hoping she pulls through! :fl Poor Scrappy, I am a bit worried about her and how chilly it is getting since she is sick and probably can't hold her body temp as well. I might give the a warm sock with some rice in it, even thought she has lots of plumaged is probably fine. All advice appreciated! Thanks so much! @azygous @Wyorp Rock @Eggcessive @Overo Mare Any ideas?

Keep giving her the calcium tablet every day. It's normal for a hen to behave this way while there is still egg material blocking her. It's a very good sign she's pooping. The calcium is very necessary to produce the contractions to expel all of the material. Keep her well hydrated. Dehydration is counterproductive, and if you have to force the fluids down her, then do it. Have I told you how to syringe fluids safely?

I have seen her drinking, but I don't know how much for sure. I would love to know how to safely syringe her water, I really don't want her to aspirate. Thank you so much! What should I be looking for when looking for dehydration?

She is doing the same today, still pooping, but haven't seen her drink. Could you tell me how to syringe the water safely? Thanks! I did notice her comb was kind of purple. It isn't scabby, like dry fowl pox or anything, just purple. Could it be frost bite? I can get pics in a little bit! @azygous @Wyorp Rock

Open the beak up and slide the syringe into the right side of her mouth. Poke it under the tongue while keeping to the right side. This safely avoids the center of her throat where the airway is located. Squirt in a little water, and let her swallow, then repeat.

This is the same procedure you would use for tube feeding. It's even easier than syringing, as you don't need to wait for her to swallow since the tube goes into the crop. I use a tube about seven or eight inches long, and I insert that into the right side of the mouth, then down a few more inches into the crop. Then I syringe the liquid right into the tube. It's much faster and less messy.

That you! Any ideas for the purple comb?
