Yeah, definitely not at all possible. For one, how would two separate species get in the same egg? Even if a hybrid was possible, it wouldn't be two separate species in the same egg, it would be one baby that was a cross of the two species.

So either this was made up to try to trick people, or, since the OP mentioned they were tossing out multiple eggs, one was a chicken egg and one was a duck egg and they landed near each other and so OP thought they came of the same egg.

There is absolutely no way at all that both of those were in the same egg.

That picture of a 'chicken/duck hybrid' at the beginning is just a duck that's had the webbing cut out of its feet. Blow up the picture and you can even see remnants of the webbing still attached to its toes. I feel really bad for that duck because it was likely mutilated to promote a hoax.

That second one is either a very sick chicken that's walking upright because it has something wrong with it, like egg binding, or it just walks that way. All chickens float. Chickens can swim. Just because it can float doesn't make it half duck.

You'll also note that as soon as they wanted to do testing on her, suddenly her remains were no longer available and had actually been burned, not buried, and the remaining feathers that they had had been 'thrown away'.

This is just biologically impossible. These two birds aren't just different species, they're different orders entirely. That would be like saying an elephant could breed with a horse because they're both mammals.

Nice try. I didn't cut anything. All I did was pick up the bodies, brought inside my house and rinsed them in the sink. I did go back out and since the 3 eggs were all thrown in different areas, took pictures. I unfortunately wasn't able to locate the 3rd but it is not relevant. Just trying to add as much information as I could. The two ( not relevant) green eggs were pure liquid. Nothing had formed. I posted the exact same post on a group on Facebook and was bashed enough.
You remember the World was flat and people said how stupid the theory of a round world was? You can keep trying to tell me why this didn't happen OR just be nice and try to help me find out why. I know it happened. Poor babies.... that right, I felt horrible that I threw out something this wonderful and really thought it was a bad egg. Obviously is was a bad for me egg because instead of offering ways to figure out what happened so I don't have a retarded chicken or a drowning duck or whatever.... you (and others) just try to play the "no way" game.
I hope you understand my frusterations. By no means to I want to cause drama, lied, manipulated or desecrated any portion of this.

This is interesting........ I've never seen any thread like this on BYC.

I know this isn't physically possible, but I ain't going to go calling this a 'hoax' because I have no idea.

Nobody should call you a liar, @EastTXMom. But something must've got mixed up with the eggs. There's not even a 1% chance of a chick and a duckling in the same egg. Maybe like @Pyxis said, you threw two eggs close to each other?

Subscribing to this thread. I'm fascinated.

...I never said you cut anything? All I said was that either it was a hoax or two eggs landed near each other and the different species were mistook to have come out of the same egg. Or someone is playing a very mean joke on you.

Please do let us know if the college or extension agency says that two separate species could be in the same egg, and how they think that happened.

I think you need to reread my post because the bottom half was in regards to a website that was posted in here by another person. It had nothing to do with your situation, which is why I quoted the post I was replying to and then replied to it.

You can keep trying to tell me why this didn't happen OR just be nice and try to help me find out why.

I really apologize if you took offense to my post. I want to explain why I really don't think it happened. My first argument would be that animals from different orders cannot interbreed. Hybrids do happen between different species that are in the same order, like horses and donkeys, muscovy ducks and mallard derived ducks, even crosses like chickens and guineas have happened. But all those crosses are from animals that, even though they are different species, are in the same order.

However, this actually isn't a hybrid - what this would be is two separate species in the same egg. For that to happen, there would have had to have somehow been two yolks in the egg, because each embryo needs its own yolk, and you said you didn't set any double yolkers. Then, those yolks would have had to have been of different species - one would have had a duck blastodisc on it and the other a chicken blastodisc, so somehow the bird that laid it must have been producing blastodiscs of both species. Then, each blastodisc would have had to have been fertilized by that species' respective sperm. And then somehow after that, two embryos would have had to have developed in a small regularly sized chicken egg.

Let me frame it this way; it's like if someone told you their dog gave birth, and it had puppies and kittens.

So that's why I don't think it happened. I apologize for saying you might have tried to make a hoax. What I do think happened is either the two eggs landing near each other situation, or someone is playing a cruel 'practical joke' on you.

I hope the college and extension offices have answers for you. I'll wait to see what they have to say :pop

Thank, it's much nicer to say I don't know or its very hard to believe than liar or hoax. I am about to post a cpl pics I just took. Someone asked for reference photos and the guy suggesting I mutated the babies, I have zoomed in extra close.

So I'm learning how to reply, quote, etc. Your post seemed like this was a sickened elaborate hoax. Thanks for the clarification.

I will post more when I find out more information. Thanks for your time.

No problem. This was the hoax I was referring to, by the way:

Someone cut the webbing out of this poor duck's feet so they could claim it was half chicken.
